Hi Anya, great to hear from you!

Thanks! These advanced manuals are really pushing me out of my comfort zone, so glad it seems to be working.

Our club's new venue is fantastic. It's a room above a pub. The book-lined walls definitely add an air of intellectualism to the meetings ;)

Thanks,
Andy

Andrew, you have such a great way to bring stories and characters to life. I don't know if you plan for that or if it comes naturally but your use of pauses and highlighting of key words is one the best I ever observed. I loved the reenacting (is that a word?) of the dialogue of all involved - it worked well! The caveman speech was really funny too. The venue where your new club meets looks very cool - seems like a nice library? Anya

Absolutely fantastic speech, Andy.

The audience participation strengthens the story and really makes it feel 'real' and flow smoothly. Very humourous, too; you definitely met the objectives for this speech.

As you say, this experience definitiely had "speech material" written all over it and thanks to the humourous elements, the seriousness of the situation is softened: I was laughing, that's for sure.

Your final comment of wanting to emphasise "the vulnerability, or the standing-up-to-the-bully aspects" is a nice idea, and definitely something to be aware of for the next speech ("Use entertaining material as a means of conveying a serious message", right?).

Again, excellent speech and I'm looking forward to following your journey through The Entertaining Speaker manual.

It helped me to prepare to be a first time timekeeper since I didn't provide myself the opportunity to read up on what a timekeeper does during a toastmaster session

Anya, great to hear from you! Hope things are well in SD. Was actually attempting to read 52 books that year, so I managed to re-frame my failure as a success!

Recently discovered your blog, very interesting! From watching the speech remotely, the ear wax theme didn't come through as disgusting and the eyelash dandruff was funny! I had a similar experience in the table topics once where I told a story that I thought was funny and one person found it disgusting. And I agree, Iwould have never thought you had a dyslexia problem. 37 books in one year and you call yourself a slow reader!

Wow, good speech Andy. And congratulations on your CC award. I had no idea about either the dyslexia or your annual battle with ear wax build up.
